The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

The forward, with six months left on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Bayern was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Attack

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent performances feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional business:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
