The Blue Jays Secure World Series Matchup Against the Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

George Springer previously helped the Astros claiming the World Series in 2017.

The Toronto Blue Jays reached their first championship series following the 1993 season by overcoming the Mariners in the final seventh game of the AL Championship Series.

Down by two runs, the star outfielder hit a three-run homer in the seventh frame, leading the sole Canadian team in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 win in the series. Awaiting them are the Los Angeles Dodgers, holders of the defending champions, in the upcoming World Series.

"I'm thrilled for everyone here, Toronto, the nation," Springer stated, a star of the Houston Astros team that claimed the 2017 championship. "This is such an amazing experience."

Springer has now hit twenty-three playoff homers, making him third on the list behind Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (27).

"I can't think of anyone else anywhere that I'd choose in that situation except for George Springer with his post-season brilliance," remarked manager John Schneider.

The Mariners, who had led the series 2-0 and 3-2, continue to be the one club yet to make an appearance in a World Series.

Wilson said "without a doubt that it hurts" in the wake of his club's elimination at their home ballpark, but praised their work in the campaign.

"This is a unique group. Unfortunately that we had to come out on the unsuccessful side of the series," he continued.

Toronto won the title on both previous visits in the early 90s, and will host the Dodgers in the first game on Friday.
