New York Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After New York City Shooting
New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and believes the player will be OK after being shot in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.
Glenn described that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “upbeat” during a recent discussion.
“That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn commented. “His wife and his kid, they are doing well and he will come through this without issue.”
It remained unclear when Boyd would leave the medical facility, where he is reported as serious yet stable.
“Don’t know just yet,” he added. “But I will say this, just talking to him, he seemed very positive. And again, that reassures me, given his positive frame of mind and his words reflect that optimism.”
New York police released security footage Monday of an individual wanted in the attack on the player. What prompted the attack is currently under review and officials stated it’s not clear if Boyd was targeted. No one else was hurt were reported.
The attack took place around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning about halfway between Madison Square Garden and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, twenty-nine, was taken to a medical center after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, as reported. The assailant escaped.
Glenn shared Boyd has been in his thoughts “a ton” since learning of the incident. He further stated that Boyd and his spouse just had a child.
“The first thing I thought about, he has a new baby,” Glenn noted. “And I’m thinking about his wife, considering his child and I hope he recovers fully. That was my main concern.
“A certain process is underway, that I won’t detail, but I’m happy at the fact that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”
Boyd was inactive in the present campaign, his first with the Jets, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on mid-August with a shoulder issue that needed an operation.
He signed with New York as an unrestricted free agent in spring and was expected to be an important component of an improved special teams group under Glenn and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. However, he got hurt during preseason drills on August 2 and had to be helped off.
Boyd continued to be present all season long while working his way back.
“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn stated. “I mean, he is a regular at our matches. He is completely involved. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”
Boyd, from Texas, played his first four seasons with the Vikings after being a seventh-round pick by Minnesota out of the University of Texas in 2019. He joined Arizona in last year and later was with the Texans subsequently. Boyd signed a one-year contract valued at $1.6 million with the Jets in the spring.
