Lando Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has outperformed his teammate at each of the last five grands prix.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat team-mate and title rival the Australian for the fastest time in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the championship lead from his teammate by just one point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, topped the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before the sprint shootout set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, trailing 36 points Norris, was classified in P17 as his Red Bull team opted for a alternative strategy.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, though minor, when he spun at Turn Four early in the session.
The Japanese slid over the curbs on exit before rotating through the run-off area, and was blessed to get away with just a light touch of the wall.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also lost it, at the final moments of the session, spinning around through the high-speed Mergulho corner leading to the final bend on to the main straight.
Hamilton finished practice in 19th, just behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the other competitors, with the German's car third fastest, 0.619 seconds off Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
