LA Explodes in Celebration as Dodgers Secure Second World Series Victory
Los Angeles experienced citywide festivities after the Dodgers won a thrilling seven-game World Series title. Supporters worldwide joined Angelenos in celebration, marking the initial time in 25 years that a franchise has achieved back-to-back championships.
Celebration Parade Draws Massive Crowds
Los Angeles area celebrations included a downtown parade on the morning of the parade, a ticketed rally at Dodger Stadium, and spontaneous parties across the city.
Social media videos depict thousands of Los Angeles residents packing city center avenues, many carrying handmade banners and Dodger flags. The team was seen traveling proudly on a open-top bus through the crowds, raising the championship trophy proudly.
“My focus is already about the third time we’re going to do this,” Shohei Ohtani remarked through an interpreter.
The parade route concluded at Dodger Stadium, where the players emerged to Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” with the renowned DJ providing music and Ice Cube driving a Pacific blue vintage Cadillac around the field.
Pre-Parade Festivities and Athlete Responses
Festivities began well before the procession, with Dodgers fans setting off flares in the roads of the city center on the previous evening.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto, awarded the MVP of the championship, spoke plainly about the victory.
“Losing is not an option,” Yamamoto said. “I adore this team. I love Los Angeles.”
Varied Responses and City Unity
In contrast, Mark Walter received a less warm welcome at the rally. Video footage from the gathering appear to show Walter walking onstage to a combination of applause and boos, with jeers punctuating his speech.
The championship acted as a bright spot in what has been a trying year for the city. An approximate quarter-million people showed up to the championship parade last year, and according to Dodgers player Freddie Freeman, fans this year showed equal or greater support.
“It seems it’s almost double from last year,” he said. “The supporters are incredible. It’s so awesome to be a involved in this.”
