Ex- Physician Faces Sexual Assault Allegations Involving Thirty-Eight Individuals in His Care

Prosecutors report that a former physician now faces charges for carrying out sexual assaults against thirty-eight individuals who were patients.

Details of the Serious Allegations

Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of dozens of sexual offences – comprising some against children younger than 13 – between 2017 and 2021.

One senior prosecutor said, “Legal teams have worked at length to assist a detailed and complex police inquiry, meticulously examining the available evidence to establish that there is a strong case to proceed to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”

The Police Inquiry

The charges come after what police called a “complex investigation” into reported sexual offences at two hospitals: a hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and Russells Hall hospital.

Spencer is due to appear at the local magistrates' court on January 20th.

List of Offences

Prosecutors outline the forty-five charges comprise:

  • 15 counts of assault.
  • 17 counts of assault by penetration.
  • Nine counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
  • 3 counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
  • One count of attempted penetrative assault.

Authorities have asked anyone with concerns to contact the investigating team.
