Democratic lawmakers Criticize Trump After He Suggests They Should Face Execution

Democratic officials demonstrated fury after Donald Trump charged a contingent of Democratic congress members of being "betrayers" and stated they should be taken into custody and sentenced "by death" following their publication of a contentious video.

The Recording That Triggered the Controversy

The clip, released on Tuesday, features six Democratic congress members who formerly acted in defense or defense capacities.

"Similar to us, you all took an pledge to protect and support this founding document," the lawmakers affirmed in the brief video. "And right now, the dangers to our constitution aren't just from abroad, but from within our own country. Our laws are unambiguous, you can refuse unlawful commands, you can reject improper directives, you have to reject illegal orders. No one has to execute orders that contravene the law or our founding principles."

Trump's Furious Reaction

The recorded statement seemed to prompt a heated reply from the previous commander-in-chief.

On Thursday morning, Trump published on his social media platform: "It's called SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these betrayers to our United States should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In an additional post, he declared: "This is really concerning, and Dangerous to our United States. Their comments cannot be permitted to stand. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a additional publication, he continued: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, subject to punishment by DEATH!" He also redistributed a statement that stated: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Party Leaders Respond

Following Trump's comments on Thursday, House Democratic leader released a joint announcement condemning the comments.

"Political violence has no role in America," they declared. "Representatives who were featured in the video all worked our United States with tremendous patriotism and excellence. We clearly censure Donald Trump's disgusting and risky threats of violence against members of Congress, and appeal to House Republicans to forcefully do the same."

The party representatives also said that they had been in contact with protective services "to ensure the security of these officials and their relatives."

"Donald Trump must right away remove these extreme online messages and recant his dangerous rhetoric before he leads to violence," the statement added.

Lawmakers' Strong Reaction

The lawmakers who were featured in the video also published a response.

"We identify as ex-military personnel and national security professionals who care for this nation and swore an pledge to safeguard and uphold the constitution of the United States," they declared. "This commitment lasts a lifetime, and we plan to maintain it. No intimidation, intimidation, or promotion of aggression will deter us from that important responsibility."

"The significant point is that the president considers it punishable by death for us to reiterate the law," they stated. "Military personnel should understand that we have their backs as they execute their vow to the constitution and responsibility to follow only legal commands. It is not only the correct thing to do, but also our responsibility."

They stated: "Every American must come together and denounce the ex-president's requests for our death and partisan aggression. This is a time for principled stance."

Additional Governmental Reactions

The Opposition leader also censured Trump's remarks and posted on online networks: "Let's be crystal clear: the ex-commander in chief is calling for the capital punishment of government members."

He added: "This constitutes an outright THREAT. Every Senator, every Representative, every American – irrespective of political affiliation – should condemn this without delay and unconditionally."

The Conservative official supported Trump's allegation that the Democrats had participated in "treason", characterizing the video as "extremely improper", adding: "This constitutes very risky, you have important representatives of the government instructing soldiers to disobey orders, I think that's unprecedented in the nation's past."

The GOP official also allegedly informed journalists that in what he read of Trump's posts, Trump was "defining the offense of treason" but that "lawyers have to examine the language and decide all that."

Administration Reaction

During a White House press conference on Thursday afternoon, when asked by a journalist, "Is the president want to put to death elected officials?", the White House press secretary replied: "No."

"We should understand about what the president is addressing," the representative declared. "There are sitting members of the US Congress who coordinated to orchestrate a video message to individuals of the national defense, to serving soldiers advising them to ignore the commander in chief's proper directives."

She said: "The integrity of our military relies on the chain of command, and if that structure is compromised, it can result in casualties, it can lead to chaos, and precisely what these members of Congress ... are basically encouraging."
