From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a wide array of personalities, and a exciting storyline featuring divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers increasing in power within the city.
Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
Episode 3 finished on a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of adventurers who will separate from the main group to embark on their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.
This warrior group consists of Teor Pridesire (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (the cast member), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).
The Reason for Division
Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, connecting the personal journeys before dividing into three separate parties: Soldiers, Planners, and Seekers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
According to the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.
Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might look mismatched, but the events of the latest installment show why these five characters are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the team understands precisely where to head next after a violent opening clash with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise kicked off the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his own means, invading the secret base, attacking the character, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.
The traitor then cleared his debts and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the city, with Cyd pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each member has a specific drive to leave the city the urban setting:
- Thimble, as the companion and trusted friend, wants vengeance.
- Kattigan has experience in the region and cautions that it is a dangerous location.
- The strong character and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their reputation as key figures in the influential clan could help the team enter locations they normally couldn’t.
- Furthermore, The grateful character pledged a life debt to Wicander for his deliverance and will now follow him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are wanted by the powers that control the city for a range of causes, making remaining behind too risky:
- Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and The healer defied the influential house and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- The fighter is marked for death by House Halovar.
This leaves them little choice but to journey toward the northern region in quest for the traitor.
Upcoming Developments
From the latest episode’s follow-up content, we discover that the warrior group will not appear next week, leaving the other eight players to round up the Explorers and Planners parties.
Fans can look forward to learning which characters will be in which group in the season’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on October 24.
