Catherine's Yearly Festive Musical Celebration Spotlights Community Volunteers
The Princess of Wales is hosting her customary Yuletide celebration at the historic Abbey, with a congregation comprising dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have supported their local areas.
The 1,600 guests will enjoy a selection of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from stars like Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.
Focusing on Compassion and Love
The central message of the event, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.
In the audience are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a tumour, and who founded an organisation, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to support families who have a child with a terminal illness.
"The time, care and compassion you give, often quietly and unspoken, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an extraordinary difference to the lives of others," Her Royal Highness stated in a letter ahead of the concert.
Carefully Paced Reappearance
The princess has been making her own gradual return to the public eye after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, in November making her major oration since 2023, in which she discussed recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".
Performance and Potential
Those coming to the Abbey will enjoy performances from budding artists supported by the Future Talent organisation, set up with the help of the Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for instrumental training.
Carys Wood, aged 18, who plays the trumpet and is from Wales, has been helped by the organisation, with funding assisting with instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "amazing" to be playing at the concert.
"Pursuing music is often costly," Carys said. She is now a student at the prestigious music academy, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to develop their musical skills.
A Sisterly Duo
Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who plays the euphonium, will be present at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many important people," she said.
Among the guests will be representatives of different generations.
That will encompass nine-year-old Saphia Turner, recipient of a prize for youthful altruism, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to raise money for local food charities.
Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment
The Abbey has been decorated with handcrafted festive wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.
Taking to the stage will be Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the perfect culmination."
The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be broadcast on television on December 24th.
