Brian Eno Calls On Public Help to Get Together for Palestine Song to UK Christmas No 1.
A campaign is aiming to propel a traditional song from Palestine to the top of the UK charts. The project seeks to provide aid to people in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian artistic heritage.
A Chance for Support and an "Unlikely Coup"
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a moment to support Palestinians over the Christmas period. He remarked the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“It would be fantastic if that happened, yes,” he stated. “I wouldn't be completely disheartened if it doesn't manage to, festive releases are a thing unto themselves.”
Resilient Spirit of Freedom and Dignity
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the adaptation of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's powerful central theme.
“The song holds a profound significance for a lot of people,” Barghouti shared. “The message is that I would choose to perish with honor than live a life without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we want to live a dignified life that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
Track's Background and Contributing Musicians
The song was recorded following a major charity concert held in September. First conceived to be performed and recorded live, the piece was cut from the show due to the event running long.
The diverse array of artists appearing on Lullaby features a group of well-known figures from the music world. All were part of the September show, which reportedly raised a considerable total for humanitarian aid.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was produced by a trio of music creators. The track showcases a fusion of the heritage language with freshly written English words.
The team running the campaign have clarified that their objective is to generate maximum funds for a dedicated fund. These proceeds will be distributed to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an partnering humanitarian organization.
“We don’t have a rigid aim,” a figure commented. “We aim for as much as possible. Of course, the higher the total, the greater the impact. Every penny goes out to the people of Gaza.”
The reality in the area was described as its extreme devastation, with a huge proportion of infrastructure reportedly levelled or seriously harmed.
“In that context, a few million is unlikely to make that much difference. But I think what does make a difference is first of all making this cause better known and proving that another narrative exists.”
The single 'Lullaby' is launching at the end of the week. Additionally, a complete film of the solidarity show will be made ready to watch on a digital service from the 19th of December.
