Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Eindhoven Loss
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was expected for questions to be asked about his future following a further convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in twelve games, marking the club's poorest streak since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I have got plenty of support from above,” Slot commented.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and get a victory obviously but if you are working as a coach and not doing well then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my role. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to elaborate on his discussions with the team officials, the head coach revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful to the team and to me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me all the time each day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard discussions I feel the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat yet so we'll see.”
Recurring Issues and Squad Response
Slot highlighted familiar shortcomings from his squad in their European loss, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones remarked.
“It is unacceptable. I don't need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond being angry inside. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It's tough because I’m playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a period like this with outcomes so bad.”
Jones concluded, “However we still have the emblem on our chest. And as long as that badge is removed, we’re always going to battle.”
“Our aim is to get this team return to its rightful place, demonstrate to all once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”
“At this moment, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
